The Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana supports important ecosystems across the freshwater-to-saltwater gradient. Sea-level rise, fewer freezing events, rainfall patterns, and tropical cyclones interact with an exacerbate the existing challenges of subsidence, population growth, levees, canals, and energy-related infrastructure to threaten the long-term viability of these ecosystems. communities who livelihoods depend on fishing also are vulnerable to the environmental changes.
